Description of Technical Authoring - introductory course

Introduction to technical authoring (1 day) training course provides a grounding in technical authoring principles and writing styles appropriate to user documentation.

This course is practical and 'activity-based'. Throughout the course you perform exercises to gain experience in the techniques taught.

Training is provided by highly experienced instructors, all of whom have 15+ years' experience in technical authoring.

  • New technical authors, as a precursor to our Intermediate and Advanced technical authoring training courses.
  • People who are not career technical authors, but who have been asked to carry out technical authoring work.

Course Content

Introduction to technical authoring training covers the following areas:

  • Analysing your audience.
  • Structuring and designing your documents.
  • Writing using plain English.
  • Avoiding standard errors in punctuation and grammar.
  • Designing an effective layout for your documents.
  • Reviewing and proof reading documents to improve quality.

Training venue

Scheduled Introduction to technical authoring training courses (for individuals) are hosted in Bromsgrove in the Midlands.

On-demand Introduction to technical authoring training courses (for your group) can be run on a date and at a location that suits you, which may be our training centre in Bromsgrove or your venue.

On successful completion of this course delegates receive a certificate confirming they have attended and successfully completed the course.

Continuing studies

Delegates are entitled to 30 days email support from Armada to help with any post-training issues. 

Expenses

Scheduled Introduction to technical authoring course (1 day): £350 + VAT per delegate. This price is inclusive of relevant course documentation, refreshments and a buffet lunch.

On-demand Introduction to technical authoring course: £750 + VAT for the first delegate, plus £50 + VAT per subsequent delegate. This is for a course hosted in Bromsgrove. Please 'request information' for a price for running this course at your venue, or any other options you may be considering.
