Adobe Indesign Cs5 (ace) Course
The Adobe InDesign CS5 (ACE) Course is designed to help students prepare for the Adobe Certified Expert InDesign examination. All course materials are officially endorsed by Adobe.
The course consists of Officially endorsed ACE Courses books, accompanying CD Rom�s containing exercise files and online CertBlaster Exam Preparation Software.
Please Note: This course is not compatible with Apple Mac Computers.
Adobe InDesign CS5 Basics Course Book:
This course book will teach students fundamental concepts and terminology and the basic features of Adobe InDesign CS5. Students will learn how to create documents, place text and graphics, and create custom color swatches.
Students will also learn how to work with master pages and multi-page documents. In addition, students will learn how to format text, apply styles, work with threaded text frames, position and group objects, and work with layers. Finally, students will print documents, create print presets, and package documents for commercial printing.

The following topics are covered: The Adobe InDesign environment; Preferences and defaults; and InDesign Help.
- Unit 2: Basic Documents
The following topics are covered: New documents; Text frames; Graphics frames; and Custom colors.
- Unit 3: Guides & Master Pages
The following topics are covered: Object positioning; and Master pages.
- Unit 4: Typesetting
The following topics are covered: Text frame threading; Paragraph formatting; and Styles.
- Unit 5: Modifying Items
The following topics are covered: Text frame options; Graphics; Grouped items; and Layers.
Unit 6: Finalising Documents
The following topics are covered: Outputting documents; Commercial printing preparation and ACE Exam Objectives.
Adobe InDesign CS5 Advanced Course Book:
Students will start by learning how to create complex document structures, create tint and gradient swatches, and use object libraries and snippets to work more efficiently and will then learn how to create vector paths and wrap type on a path.
Students will also learn advanced typography and composition techniques. In addition, students will work with graphics, object styles, tables, special characters, and the Story Editor. Finally, students will learn how to manage long documents.

The following topics are covered: Document setup; Tint and gradient swatches; Object libraries and snippets; and Item spacing.
- Unit 2: Vector Paths
The following topics are covered: Creating vector paths; Vector paths and pictures and Vector paths and type.
- Unit 3: Typography
The following topics are covered: Manual type resizing; Quick Apply; Automated styles; Graphics in typography; Precise leading control; Composition, hyphenation, and justification; Horizontal spacing; and Typography shortcuts.
- Unit 4: Graphics
The following topics are covered: Layer comps; Transparency; Object styles; and Transforming objects.
- Unit 5: Tables
The following topics are covered: Creating tables; Changing table structure; and Formatting tables.
- Unit 6: Text Editing
The following topics are covered: Story Editor; Special characters; and Column, frame, and page breaks.
- Unit 7: Long Documents
The following topics are covered: Sections; Tables of contents; Indexes and cross-references; Books; Footnotes & ACE Exam Objectives.
Adobe InDesign CS5 Production Course Book:
This course book focuses on the information needed to prepare documents for high-end or commercial printing. In this course, students will learn more about working with color, using color management, printing more efficiently, and using advanced print settings.
Students will also learn how to add interactive elements to documents, prepare documents for electronic distribution, and work with XML.
- Unit 1: Efficient Document Setup
The following topics are covered: Document presets; Placeholders and templates; Conditional text; and Data merge.
- Unit 2: Working with Color
The following topics are covered: Color management; Individual image profiles; Color printing basics; Process and spot colors; Mixed inks; and Colourising.
- Unit 3: Preventing Printing Problems
The following topics are covered: The Links panel; and Potential printing problems.
- Unit 4: Print Settings
The following topics are covered: Composite print settings; and Print presets for color separations.
- Unit 5: Electronic Distribution
The following topics are covered: Interactivity; Multimedia; and XHTML.
- Unit 6: XML
The following topics are covered: Exporting documents as XML files; Importing XML files and ACE Exam Objectives.
Pre-Requirements:
There are no particular entry requirements as the course is set out for beginners although students will require their own version of Adobe InDesign CS5 to complete the course.
Course Duration & Support:
Students may register at any time. The courses are designed as self-study courses but if you have any problems you can email our support service. As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer, and we do not impose a cut-off date for study.
Assessment:
Assessment is in the form an Adobe Certified Expert Examination. Examinations are in a multiple choice/multiple answer format and are 90 minutes in length each.
Qualification:
On Completion of Course, you can apply for your internationally recognised Adobe InDesign CS5 9A0-142 Examination.
Examinations must be sat at a registered Pearson VUE testing centre and are currently �104.00 + VAT each. You can locate testing centres and schedule appointments on their Website: Pearson Vue Website.
