This beginners Photoshop course is an introduction to the basics of image editing and design with Adobe Photoshop, including image resizing, resolution, colour correction, using type and colours, and creating basic designs.
This Photoshop course is designed to provide familiarity with the interface and tools, while covering basic techniques of image editing and design which are important to understand before moving on to more advanced image editing and design techniques such as web graphics or photo montage.
One to one or small group Photoshop beginners course is available in Birmingham and Midlands areas and around the UK
As this is a beginners course, you only need to have good general computer skills.
Some previous knowledge of design or image editing software would be helpful, but not essential.
Photoshop basics - interface and tools
Using the tools and changing tool option settings
Using floating palettes: Layers, History, Info, etc.
Saving images in the correct colour mode, resolution and file type for either print or web use
Cropping, Rotating & Colour Modes
Cropping images to remove unwanted areas
Rotating or Flipping an image
Converting between different colour modes (RGB to CMYK or Greyscale)
Selection Tools
Using the different selection tools
Making a selection around an object
Moving or copying the selected area to a different position on the image
Selecting an area of an image based on its colour, and modifying that area
Removing or changing the background of a selected object
Layers
Working with layers: organising, naming and deleting layers
Combining photographs and text in separate Layers
Modifying the content of a layer, moving layer content, editing or erasing areas
Changing opacity and blending options on layers to get different effects
Adding a drop shadow and emboss effects to an item on a layer
Text
Creating normal text and artistic text, setting text attributes, choosing colours
Applying drop shadow and emboss effects to text
Colour Correction
Using Levels to adjust brightness/contrast of an image
Adjusting image colours
Creating a sepia-tinted image from either a colour or a B&W photo
Filters
Filters for image enhancement - sharpening and blurring
Creating simple textures and patterns using noise, motion blur and other filters
Colours, Painting & Retouching
Painting and brush tools: defining a brush size and painting
Choosing a colour
Filling areas with solid colour or gradient
Photo retouching - removing small scratches and spots
Image Resizing & Resolution
Resizing an image using the image size command; keeping images sharp when resizing
Discussion of typical sizes and resolutions for different jobs e.g. brochure or web page
Resizing images to the correct size for the job while maintaining image quality
