Conflict Management Training - 1 day course

Some managers do not manage conflict very well. Instead, they sometimes mismanage conflict and make the situation worse. Conflict in a team is inevitable and could even be beneficial, but only if it is managed according to correct principles.

On this one-day training course, you will learn exactly how to handle conflict situations and difficult people.

The purpose of this training course is to help managers interact with people in such a way as to improve productivity and create a good atmosphere. The training style is practical, interactive and keeps the delegates involved throughout the whole training.

This Conflict Management training course will benefit those delegates that fit any of the following descriptions:

• If you sometimes say to yourself "I know what I mean but I can't explain it"
• If you believe that the conflicts may sometimes be based on a miscommunication

The method of training is as follows:

The trainer gives a clear explanation of the point in question.
Then demonstrates the specific principle or method or idea and gives specific examples.
The delegates then practice by doing an exercise with each other and/or they do a practical exercise with the trainer.
Then, the delegates are asked to write down an associated action, for each point made.
All the points are therefore tied to the delegate’s specific work context.
At the end of the day, the delegates are asked to choose six which are the most personally meaningful from the many points that are made throughout the day.
All points are supported with full printed and hand written (by them) notes to take away.

• The need to act from professional principles not by your feelings or mood
• The need for clear communication
• How to define your meaning and avoid miscommunication
• Focus on what CAN BE DONE, not on what cannot be done
• Distinguish between legitimate criticism and cynicism
• How to improve your listening skills

PM Resolving conflicts based on poor behaviour

• Remember to let them save face
• How to use factual language, NOT emotionalised, highly charged language
• Always prepare your message in advance
• Always give them a specific "way out" of the conflict situation
• Distinguish between "reasons" and "excuses" for not doing something
• Watch the body language and listen for the voice tone
• Learn when to compromise and when not to
• Keep control of yourself
