This class is a 5-day (optional 4-day) intense introduction to virtualization using VMware’s immensely popular vSphere™ suite including VMware ESX™ 4.1 and vCenter™ 4.1. Assuming no prior virtualization experience, this class starts with the basics and rapidly progresses to more advanced topics. More than 40% of class time is devoted to labs so concepts and skills are reinforced.
Initial labs focus on installation and configuration of stand-alone ESX servers. As the class progresses, shared storage, networking and centralized management are introduced. The class then continues on to more advanced topics including resource balancing, high availability, back up and recovery, troubleshooting and more. Disaster recovery, rapid deployment, hot migration and workload consolidation are also covered.
This class is unique in its approach; which is to identify common IT pain points and then clearly explain and demonstrate how virtualization delivers immediate, tangible benefits (e.g.: reduced capital and operational costs, greater consistency, responsiveness, reduced administration, server consolidation, etc.). Each topic is presented from the perspective of delivering key business and/or economic value – not just the technical or mechanical aspects of the software.
By the end of the class, attendees will have learned the benefits, skills, mechanics and best practices of virtualization. Attendees will be able to design, implement, deploy, configure, monitor, manage, troubleshoot and secure VMware vSphere 4.1.
User, operator, or administrator experience on common operating systems such as Microsoft Windows®, Linux™, UNIX™ or other platforms. Experience installing, configuring and managing operating systems, storage systems and or networks is useful but not required. We assume that all attendees have a basic familiarity with PC server hardware, disk partitioning, IP addressing, O/S installation, etc. No Linux command line skills are assumed or required.
Benefits:
Attending this course at HOST offers some significant benefits.
1. One dedicated ESX Server per delegate.
2. Small class size for better knowledge transfer.
3. "Real world" approach to the subject of virtualisation.
4. Attending this course would prepare delegates to achieve certification if they attend a VMware certified course at a later date.
This course takes place in our training facility which is located in a separate secure wing of the Haughton Hall Hotel complex. All classrooms are supplied with whiteboard, screen
and projection system, in addition to all the equipment necessary to support the scheduled training event. Two classrooms are set aside, and are dedicated to mono and colour LaserJet printers.
Host aims to give the IT professional a sound working knowledge of the product we train them in and a principal feature of Host courses is the emphasis on the "Hands-on" element. Any technical training must contain some theory but Host concentrate on that detail which is essential in order to understand the operation of the product, or which has practical application in the workplace. Abstract topics are avoided; allowing more time to be spent on practical matters and hands on sessions. The objective is to equip the delegate with the necessary skills and confidence to maintain and repair the equipment.
At Host we are currently the only independent HP Authorised Technical Training Centre in the UK, and are also accredited by IBM to deliver their authorised training programs.
Training and expertise available from Host covers an ever-evolving range of products from HP, IBM, Sun, SNIA, CompTIA and includes Enterprise Servers and Storage Systems, PCs, Printers, Networking Products and Peripherals.
Training can be delivered on customer sites or at a venue of choice, either utilising customer equipment or supplying our own, tailoring delivery to suit individual requirements, both in terms of equipment, content and duration.
Host’s instructors are dedicated full-time training staff, not contractors, only very occasionally are outside trainers employed. This has the benefit of continuity and course cancellations are extremely rare. Classes are kept small, typically to a maximum of six delegates to facilitate a better learning environment.
