This one-day course will provide you with an introduction to writing and maintaining written specifications for digital projects (including websites, e-books and software). It is relevant to both in-house and outsourced projects. As both the need for specifications and what should, and shouldn't, be specified is discussed, you will gain knowledge of the best practices for creating specifications from a set of requirements, handling scope issues and gaining stakeholder buy-in. The course focuses on the specific requirements and issues involved in digital publishing.
Production staff involved in outsourced production of books and digital products, those involved in the management of the relationship between outsourcers and publishers and staff with responsibility for internal projects.
Nic Gibson is a founder and Director of Corbas Consulting Ltd, who provide services to publishers and professional organisations in both traditional and electronic media. He has worked in and around the media industry since the early 1990s. He started his career in multimedia, doing hypermedia development and progressing into internet development and XML.
For the past ten years, Nic has been working with XML driven web development, which led him to found Corbas Consulting, which specialises in digital publishing consultancy and training. Nic has worked on XML and e-book publishing projects for various publishers including Hodder, Penguin and Bloomsbury.

For over 30 years The Publishing Training Centre at Book House (PTC) has been firmly established as the pre-eminent training organisation within publishing. We provide high quality yet cost-effective training for publishers both in the UK and overseas. Previously known as Book House Training Centre, PTC is an educational charity dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in publishing.
The Publishing Training Centre grew from a small department at The Publishers Association and remains at the heart of the industry. All of our tutors are practitioners first and foremost, which means that they bring their real-world experience with them to the courses they teach, enriching the experience for students and making the courses more practical. PTC's work is overseen by a dedicated Board of Trustees, who have a broad range of experience and expertise in the publishing industry.
Offering over 70 short courses covering the complete range of publishing skills, as well as distance learning programmes and in-company training opportunites. PTC also cater for non-publishers who still need some of the core editorial skills.
